Southeastern CC - Fall 2016

The Southeastern Community College PBL Chapter, has been working diligently this year to make a difference! We have participated in several activities both, on campus as well as in our community.  Our advisor and officers are working with other organizations within the campus to make future events successful just as the recent ones. We began by holding our first meeting and appointing newly officers.  Then we establish potential fundraisers, upcoming events, the creation of our new T-shirts.  September was a very busy month for our PBL Chapter members.

We began the year with an early fundraiser by selling Country Meats sticks, as it was a full success the previous year.  Then we continued into the month with preparation to the annual kickoff at Barton College where our President had a part to preside, which then had to be postponed for later noticed to due a shortage of fuel. Our chapter took part in an on campus event known as Senior Day on September 27, 2016. High school seniors from the community were invited to participate in several workshops offered by various instructors. PBL jumped in and got the seniors involved with a good ol’ rendition of Shark Tank. Students were asked to come up with an innovative idea and to present it to their peers, instructors, and the judges. The event was a great success!

While planning and preparing for another successful month, once again the unstoppable of Mother Nature stirred up one of those unexpected Hurricanes.  With the coming of Hurricane Matthew and for the safety of everyone the Movie Night that was intended to be held on October 6th was postponed for November 10th.  During this event our Chapter was expected to take a part by having our own stand with goodies for the community.  As Hurricane Matthew approach the Carolinas, the damage was gradually increasing, as water levels increased as well as wind gusts, falling trees and washed out roads.  Instead with the devastation that Matthew left behind many of our members were found during cleanup efforts that were made by individuals and their families as well as the preparation of hot meals to be served to hundreds of people in our area. We are very proud of our chapter and its members as they stepped in to help others. We are continuing with these effort as our communities are far away from being fully restored. Matthew left the Carolinas Coast in destruction but also gathered us a to give and help.

We have business left undone for the month of November.  We shall have new fundraiser toward the middle to end of the month with the World’s Finest Chocolate as it was requested by many of the community college students.  We have the Movie Night upcoming for the community.  Where our Chapter members will get to wear their new PBL T-shirts!

Southeastern CC - Fall 2015

We are looking forward to a great year for Phi Beta Lambda at Southeastern Community College! We have so many great things to look forward to. This year, Southeastern Community College started off the year by hosting its first ever Phi Beta Lambda Kickoffs on campus. We had a great turnout and our school President was able to meet with the PBL Eastern Region and see what PBL was about. This was a great opportunity for Southeastern Community College and we are honored for the experience and very happy to say that it was a success and a great way to kick off the year. We have had two chapter meetings already and have several more already scheduled. We have met with other clubs and discussed fundraising activities and also recruiting ideas to get new members to join Phi Beta Lambda. SCC PBL is assisting the on-campus Student Government Association with various tasks and we have sent a representative to each of their meetings. Officers have been elected for the 2015-2016 school year. Also, SCC PBL is signed up for the Fall Leadership Development Conference. Members are working on a pin design and a board for FLDC. We have several events scheduled including March of Dimes, Relay for Life, a food drive, Halloween at our local rest home, and much more. We look forward to a very productive year and cannot wait to see our fellow PBL'ers at the Fall Leadership Development Conference!

Below are a few pictures from our Eastern Region Meeting!!

What's New with Phi Beta Lambda at SCC?

The Xi Alpha Phi Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda at Southeastern Community College welcomes our new members for 2012-2013. Our second meeting was a greater success than the first. We saw the addition of several new members and held an election of officers for the new year. We had a group of members eager to become involved. Nearly every position had more than one person nominated. After speeches were made concerning qualifications, elections were held. The result was a good mixture of experience, wisdom, talent, and enthusiasm. With the support of other club members, this year should prove to be both exciting and productive.

Past Efforts Renewed

Once again, this year our organization will be doing its part to help the environment. Thursday, October 4th, our chapter in conjunction with the Environment Action Club, will hold a campus clean-up. All members are encouraged to take pride in our school by participating in this event.

Fall will provide two opportunities for our club to help the less fortunate both in our community and overseas. Samaritan's Purse Shoe Box donations will be collected from October 15- November 2. Items needed include small toys, hygiene items, hard candies, and school supplies. October 15- November 16, we will also be conducting a canned food/ coat drive. All donations will be delivered to local food banks, where they will be distributed to the needy of Columbus County.

Our chapter will take part in SCC's annual Fall Fling. Students can enjoy music, games, food and fun! These social gatherings give student groups and organizations visibility, allowing for fundraising and recruitment. A similar event will be held in the spring. Fall Fling--October 24, 2012--10am-2pm.

Moving Forward

Our chapter will have several committees geared toward various initiatives and events. We will also give the same special attention to CMAP and the Terry Lowrance Leadership Award. These two achievements will be a primary focus for our chapter this year. We will strive to be proactive in our pursuits for these prestigious recognitions.

Our next meeting will cover fundraising ideas, potential designs for a club T-shirt, as well as upcoming community events. As the year progresses, our local chapter will partner with organizations such as the March of Dimes and Relay for Life.

Many events are already scheduled, but we remain open to new ways to raise funds and better serve our community.
