Rowan-Cabarrus CC - Spring 2018

The Rowan-Cabarrus Community College chapter of Phi Beta Lambda is off to a great start this spring semester. We saw great success at the Spring Tip-Off meeting, hosted at RCCC. Club officers had the privilege of networking with other officer teams and advisers. In addition to learning a lot about the upcoming State Leadership Conference, we also had the opportunity to share helpful tips to assist other chapters as they prepare for SLC.

Following the Tip-Off meeting we were able to celebrate adviser appreciation day. As an officer team we all went out for Zaxby’s and presented adviser, Chad Nichols, with a gift. Due to unforeseen circumstances our other advisers were rendered unable to attend.

At the beginning of the school year, RCCC-PBL planted the seeds for a lasting relationship with the FBLA at East Rowan High School. We were allowed the privilege of attending their September monthly meeting, and were asked to share some tips and information for graduating seniors within the club. We are now planning to once again work with the East Rowan FBLA on March 13th, where we RCCC-PBL members will serve as judges for mock competitive events. We hope this will help the FBLA members at East Rowan to feel better prepared as they go into their State Leadership Conference.

We are also plan an exciting community service project that involves partnering with the Worldwide organization, Junior Achievement (JA). JA is an organization that focuses on inspiring and preparing K-12 students to succeed in the global economy. President, Angelica Mills attended an online training event on February 28th to prepare for a volunteer opportunity offered JA. On March 29th, RCCC-PBL will be going to Woodrow Wilson Elementary, to teach a first-grade class a series of five lessons provided JA. Each lesson goes over subjects such as: fiscal responsibility, economics, entrepreneurship, and a number of other great business topics. We look forward to developing a strong relationship with JA.

Last, but certainly not least, we are all eagerly awaiting and preparing SLC. We have a number of great students attending, each preparing diligently to compete at conference. Recently, we completed our Community Service Report for competition in the Community Service Project event. We look forward to making RCCC proud at this year’s State Leadership Conference.
