Rowan-Cabarrus CC - Fall 2017

The Rowan-Cabarrus Community College chapter of PBL is working on wonderful things around campus and throughout the community. With the Put Hunger Out of Business food drive postponed, we decided to work on a new holiday project that would benefit students across our campus. Our community service committee had the idea of creating a stand that would be in the shape of a tree that we could fill with poinsettias. The tree would serve as a memorial for students and faculty who are grieving lost loved ones. Accompanying the tree will be a table set up with literature on dealing with grief throughout the holidays. The table will be manned by PBL members that can help students understand resources provided on campus. PBL will also be offering students the opportunity to put stickers on the Poinsettia pots with the name of their loved one in memorial.

We wanted to let students know that they are not alone in dealing with this grief throughout this difficult season. We also wanted to ensure that students are aware of the tools and support that can be found on campus. The tree will be put up on the Monday following Thanksgiving break and will be taken down the last day of fall semester. We hope that the tree will serve as a beacon of hope to students that may not know how to get through the holiday season with the absence of their loved one. When students come in the lobby of RCCC we want them to see this tree as a symbol of what PBL and RCCC is all about, a group of students that stand together and help build one another up, on and off campus.
