Barton College - Spring 2017

The Gamma Gamma Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) at Barton College is continuing its efforts to make a difference in the Wilson community, provide leadership development, enhance its visibility, increase membership, and raise funds for its projects.

Local chapter President and NCPBL State President Jamie Barton represented the Barton College chapter at the Fall Leadership Development Conference in Greensboro.

In the ninth year of the Barton College "Day of Service," Gamma Gamma chapter members enthusiastically volunteered to participate in October 2016.  Members volunteered with Hope Station packaging non-perishable food and with yard work. In November 2016, the chapter celebrated Free Enterprise Day with Professional Division-Foundation member Charles Lanier speaking to the members.

To recruit new members, chapter members have attended several Barton College classes to promote Phi Beta Lambda. Members prepared power point presentations, played PBL promotional videos, and distributed handouts highlighting the benefits of the organization. They were also able to share with the students their experience with Phi Beta Lambda and all of the skills acquired through their involvement. The chapter has also exhibited at Barton’s Open Houses—advertising our organization to prospective students.

Phi Beta Lambda members and chapter advisers are equipped to experience "A Legacy of Leadership" by showcasing the Gamma Gamma chapter's activities of community service and leadership development while recruiting members at Barton’s Freshman Fair, Club Fair, and Meet your Major. During the semester, we have partnered with the Wilson Chamber of Commerce, the Wilson County Department of Social Services, and the Wil-Med Foundation assisting in their community service activities.

December 2016, the two advisers judged at the FBLA Triangle East Regional Competition. Chapter members are judging Digital Events and Computer Applications School-Site Events prior to the FBLA State Leadership Conference. Jamie Barton and the two chapter advisers will judge at the FBLA State Leadership Conference in Greensboro in March 2017.
